About Pacific Power Dories
A lot of my customers hail from the Pacific Northwest. Along that coast, a special type of dory has been developed by fishermen over the years. These dories have proven themselves as rugged, and capable in some of the choppiest water anywhere. They're still used for commercial fishing and by sport fishermen and boaters wanting to get out in any weather. Pacific power dories differ from other dories in that they have wide transoms with little rocker in the stern. This makes them better as power boats, getting up on a plane easier than other types of dories. They're able to mount bigger engines than their East coast cousins. Astoria Oregon is situated right at the mouth of the mighty Colombia River. This is known as some of the most dangerous waters of Coastal America. The Coast Guard trains its crews in their self-righting surf boats right in this potato patch. Fishermen fishing these productive waters for Salmon, Dungeness Crab and other species demand peak performance for their boats. This is why Pacific Power Dories are the boat of choice for much of this work. This 23' Astoria design brings the Pacific Power Dory concept to the amateur builder. You can build the Astoria of construction grade fir, available at any lumberyard, on a budget, or upgrade to marine grade ply and lumber for the optimum in ruggedness. The plans show how to shorten the Astoria to 21 feet if desired.
